4/17/2023 0 Comments Lollar raw powerThere are a myriad of great custom pickup makers out there who will 'wind 'em till you like em', (one example is Wolftone but there are many more), and in terms of P-90's, their pricing is very competitive with Gibson, for example. As an example, Gibson Iommi 'buckers have a pretty high resistance rating, and compared to other HB's I've had with similar resistance, really aren't as hairy as one might expect. The method used in determining the purchasing power of the lollar is. We (myself included) have always used that a a measure, like horsepower, and I'm afraid it just doesn't work that way. by Special Groups of Commodities 1926 100 ) Year Raw materials Semimanu. The pickup winders will tell you that resistance is a poor measure of how 'hot' a pickup might sound. I would imagine his 10k bridge has an A5. The Vintage Vibe guy will give you extra magnets to try. (The Mean 90's are a HB sized P-90 of course) And the thing has a very full and round bottom end. What a great sounding pickup! Love the full midrange and great upper mid-bite, without spiky highs. That subtle difference was what I need to hear. At first, I thought it was a bit brittle thru my rig, but went back in and replaced the cap w/a Russian PIO. I try not to be a gear snob, and so many people rave about the GFS Mean 90's that I had to try one. I had that demonstrated to me by a vintage dealer/collector. It's an incorrect supposition that all P-90's, including Gibsons, are created equally. Bare Knuckles always get high marks, but I'm in the U.S., and the rate of exchange is a killer. Hi, the Lollar P-90's are often referred to as being more 'polite', and the Fralins a bit more hairy.all depends on what you want. Again, I think about this stuff too much. I like the voicing and better dynamics of single coil pickups. Humbuckers, especially for what I play, are a bit too powerful and thick. I just feel more comfortable with single coils. Some days I like the humbuckers in the Raw Power. I do want to use P90's instead of just buying another set of humbucker-sized P90's because I want to mount them to the wood for a different (warmer, woodier) sound.īut, I'm back and forth. That way, my Special is as authentic (as per 1960's Specials) as I can make it and the P94's - which I do love - will go into the already strange SG that is the Raw Power.ĭunno. I really want to put single coils in the Raw Power but, since I have been slowly converting my Faded to a Classic/60's Special (I put white button tuning keys on it - my avatar is out of date.), I think I'm going to replace the P94's with P90's and put the P94's into the Raw Power. I have my two SG's - the Faded Special with P94's and the yellow Raw Power. Well, I get to show my obsession with minutea with this answer.
